Van D. Cummings, Pastor

Pastor Cummings has served as pastor of First Assembly since January of 1987.  He moved to the Gold Country from Los Angeles County and has been part of this community for the past fifteen years.  A native of the State of Colorado, Rev. Cummings spent his childhood in Klamath Falls, region.  He received his ministerial training at Bethany College in Santa Cruz,  California and upon graduation became a licensed minister of the Assemblies of God.  He has pastored two churches in the state of Nevada, as well as churches in both Northern and Southern California.  He and his wife, Marilyn were married in Delano, California on July 4, 1976 during our nations bicentennial anniversary.  Rev. Cummings was serving as pastor of the Assembly of God church in Delano.  The couple has seven children -- six daughters and one son.  They enjoy R.V. camping and interacting with the individuals who consider this fellowship their church home.  When not in ministry or camping, Pastor Cummings enjoys playing racquetball.  Locally he is a member of the Ministerial Association and Chaplain Auburn's Sutter Faith Hospital.  His ministry has made him an asset to the church family and to the community at large.

Robert D. Baker, Associate Pastor

Robert Baker has been ministering at Auburn First Assembly of God since 1989 when he began serving as a volunteer worker in the Youth Department of the church.  After feeling the call of God upon his life, Pastor Baker began training for the ministry at Bethany College.  He completed his studies at Trinity Life Bible College in Sacramento.  Pastor Rob has served as associate pastor for the past ten years, overseeing the Youth of the church and serving as head of the Music Department.

Rob and his wife Michelle have three children.  He enjoys playing basket ball and spending time with his active family.

David Colbert, Specialized Ministries

Upon graduation from high school in Riverside, California, Rev. Colbert completed a four year course of study at Southern California College in Costa Mesa (now Vanguard University) where he graduated with a B.A. degree in theology.  From college he began teaching in the public school system while pastoring a small community church in the Turlock area.

Rev. Colbert left the classroom to accept a pastorate in the city of Yuba City.  Later he and his wife, Connie, and their two sons moved to the Fremont, California area where he began teaching in the Fremont Union School District until he was elected Director of Christian Education for the Northern California and Nevada District of the Assemblies of God.  He served in that capacity for nine years before returning to the pastoral work.  In addition to his pastorate in Yuba City Rev. Colbert has successfully pastored two churches in the Santa Cruz area, as well as in the cities of Riverside and Redding.  Rev. Colbert has also served as the Teen Challenge director in San Diego, California.  Teen Challenge is a Christian based drug rehabilitation program which over the years has maintained an extremely impressive cure rate for those who complete the program.

After his service with Teen Challenge Pastor Colbert returned to pastoral work, where he remained until 1992.  During the last several years he has been doing work with Latin American child Care, which is a program providing essential books and supplies for school children in sixteen Latin American countries.  More than 75,000 students are enrolled in this dynamic program.

Rev. Colbert now serves as Men’s Ministries director and Senior’s ministries at Auburn’s First Assembly of God church.
